Ladies and Gentlemen....The Rolling Stones. Fifty and fabulous. Fifty and counting. Fifty. It's a milestone for any type of anniversary. A reason to celebrate no doubt. So grab your girlfriends, put on your leather pants and paper thin vintage concert tee, and get ready to rock your socks off because the boys are back in town.
The Rolling Stones are about to kick off the start of their 2013 tour "50 and counting" in LA starting May 3rd and hitting 10 major cities along their journey east, with talk about possibly adding second shows due to demand of sold out shows in Chicago and Toronto. Everyone understands the value and specialness of the Rolling Stones hitting the stage again. They are a bridge across generations of devoted music fans. It seems that age is irrelevant when we can all connect to what they do and who they are in our own unique way. They are a link in music history. A connector to what was great about performing. There is a passion and conviction in what they do and do so well. It's clear, from the most naive of perspectives, that they love what they do. And we should all be so thankful we have the opportunity to witness it again, before the boys call it quits for good. After all, touring is exhausting, and there will be a day when it is forced back underground. But today is not that day. Don't live in regrets of things you wish you would have done, words you wish you had or had not spoken, and artists you wish you could have seen live. There is only now. History is in the making.
While I think that the Rolling Stones generally do what they do best, a cover can be a great homage to the artists that inspire us. This playlist is a collection of some of my favorite covers (Wild Horses two times....because...well I can never choose a favorite version) of classic Stones tunes, in honor of a tour that's sure to be remembered for fifty more years and counting.
